My secrets/routine for a flawless looking face

I have had problematic skin almost all my life.  This year, after trying numerous products (prescription, seen on tv, drugstore, etc…) I think I’ve finally found the solution to a natural/flawless looking face.  You can check out what skincare regimen I’ve been doing here.  The products I’ve been using have really helped even out my skin tone, clear up acne & reduce the appearance of lines, wrinkles and pores.

Now onto the makeup routine.  First I start with a primer.  I like to use Benefit’s POREfessional.  This is my must have product!!!!  It’s really soft and erases all of my pores and lines.  It feels like silk and is very light weight.  Next, I apply a BB cream with my foundation brush.  This time I used Smashbox’s BB Cream, but normally I use Dr. Jart.  Then, with my concealer brush I apply my Smashbox concealer to my under eyes, nose, chin…basically anywhere I have redness or problem areas.  Then I set my foundation with my PurMinerals powder.

Time for bronzing/contouring, blush and highlighting.  For bronzing I use my MAC Nude on Board Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder.  I apply that to my temples, just below my cheeks sides of my nose and under my chin.  Now, depending on the look I’m going for I have many blushes to choose from, but for today I used my NARS blush in Orgasm to the apples of my cheeks.  I follow that with the NARS multiple stick in Orgasm on the areas of the face I want to highlight.  Blending all these products is the key.

To set the whole look and to create a completely flawless finish I use my Make Up Forever HD powder.  I apply lightly with a brush to my entire face.  This sets the makeup and creates a smooth finish.  I love this product.  It makes my skin feel so soft and silky.

BEFORE                                                                                                     AFTER

Voila!  Here’s the finished result.  I can see a complete difference from the before and after.  My skin tone is even.  My blemishes and pores are covered and I have a natural/healthy looking glow.

(Please excuse the mess of eyebrows I have going on right now.  Plucking those are in my immediate future)

Makeup storage

I’ve been putting this off for awhile because I didn’t even know where to begin. I decided to organize (well at least a portion) of my makeup and nail polish collection. Picked up some ideas from Pinterest, other things I got at the dollar store and the storage bin I got for free. I’m halfway done. I just need to organize my hair stuff and some miscellaneous skincare stuff and I will be all organized!

Nail polishes and nail art stuff

Makeup, brushes, etc…(I still need to tackle all the products I have in my bathroom, but that’s for another day)

Makeup brushes. I found this idea on Pinterest and bought the containers and glass beads from the dollar store. An inexpensive way to find all my brushes. I love Pinterest.

Everything looks so colorful and pretty.

How do you store everything? Got any tips you’d like to share?

Nail stamping

Oh hi! I forgot to mention that I am teaching myself how to do nail stamping. There are so many different nail plates and endless designs you can do. Here’s a couple things I’ve tried so far.

What do you think? Not so bad for a beginner. I think I found a talent 🙂

Sephora by OPI Spark-Tacular!

Here’s a quick post. It’s not really a review. More like a rave.

Sephora by OPI Spark-Tacular! It’s a jewelry top coat polish. It’s so sparkly and glittery and awesome!

I paired it with Sally Hansen Black Out so the glitter really stands out. I can’t stop staring at my nails. I’m actually sitting by the window (because it’s a beautiful day in Chicago) to catch the sun as it hits the glitter and really shines!

Ok. I’m gonna go now and organize my makeup and nail polishes. I just can’t stop looking at my nails.

Review of NARS Marie Galante eyeshadow duo

It was my birthday Friday, and with part of my Sephora gift card I bought this.

The NARS Marie Galante duo eyeshadow from their summer 2012 collection.

This shadow is a very shimmery, iridescent shadow. The NARS website describes the purple color as a iridescent orchid and the blue as an iridescent regal blue.

A perfect light summer look for the daytime.

Well, this duo is quite versatile. When you apply a cream shadow base it totally transforms the look into a night time look.

Voila! Gorgeous! So sparkly and girly. I love it! I applied Urban Decay’s Big Fatty mascara to my lashes and NYX’s retractable eyeliner in black on my waterline for a more dramatic look.

What do you think? This duo retails for $34 at Sephora. It’s worth every penny. I can’t wait to play around with this to see how many more looks I can come up with.

I’ll do some more of my favorite summer products soon. Thanks for reading and please subscribe if you like my posts 🙂

Summer ombré nails (first time)

So here’s a quick blog post.

My first attempt at an ombré nail.

I used Orly Passion Fruit as a base coat, Essie Sexy Divide as the second color and Sinful Colors Frenzy as the glitter.

What do you think? I think it came out alright for my first time. Next time, I’ll be more patient and work more carefully. For my first time though…not so bad. Would you like a tutorial? Leave a comment below.

Double Review!! Essie Shine of the times layered over Butter London Marrow & Layla Holographic in Flash Black

Well, I’ve been busy (painting my nails, obviously).

I have two reviews for you today.  The first is Essie-Shine of the Times layered over Butter London-Marrow.  You can see my review for Butter London-Marrow here

Essie Shine of the times is a part of their luxeffects collection.  It’s a multichromatic glitter flakie top coat, and I absolutely LOVE it.  Actually, I love pretty much all of Essie’s polishes and I’m wondering why I don’t have more of them in my collection.  Time to hit up CVS, I suppose.

This polish can be worn alone, but I think it works best as a top coat.  It really shows all the flakies and colors.  I’m thinking of layering it over a mint or a gray next time.  Talk about pretty.  It goes on quite thick, so don’t use too much.  You can always add but it’s a pain to take away.  No complaints from me though.  Have a look.

get ready for this one…

Gorgeous, right?

Time to move on now.  I saved the best for last. Layla Holographic in Flash Black

I’ve been waiting for this polish to come in stock at Ulta.  I went there a few weeks ago and asked the sales lady when they’d be arriving, and she had no idea what I was talking about.  She looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned holographic.  After patiently waiting, I went back there a week or so later, and YAY!!!  They had it in stock.  I did my research beforehand, so I knew exactly what I wanted.  Here you go…

Oh. Em. Gee!  These pictures don’t even do this polish ANY justice.  The pictures are pretty, but in person this polish is BEAUTIFUL!  I can’t even tell you how many compliments I get when people see this.  I’ve even had two guys tell me how cool this color is…and that says something.

This is a gray/charcoal linear holographic.  I recommend using a base coat to get the full effect.  I use Nfu Oh’s Aqua Base.  I used two coats of Layla for this picture.  That’s really all you need.  It applies nicely and doesn’t streak, especially if you use a base coat.  I even applied Seche Vite’s top coat and it didn’t change the effect at all (like it did with my Nails Inc. Holographic Effect top coat).  Basically, what I’m saying is “buy this”.  If this color isn’t for you, they have plenty of other colors to choose from.  This cost me $15.50, but I had a coupon for 20% off.  I believe that coupon is expired now, but you can go to the Ulta website and print a coupon for $3.50 off $10.  There’s no limit on how many times you can print it, so go in everyday and buy a new nail polish 🙂  That’s what I do.  Why pay full price?  Talk to me about discounts and coupons.  I can find a great deal (almost) anywhere.

I hope you liked my “killing two birds with one stone” review.  Please leave comments or suggestions below.  Do you have a product you’d like me to review?  Let me know!

Review of Ruby Woo by MAC

I’ve wanted this lipstick for awhile now. I originally went to MAC to buy a sheer lipstick, but when I put it on it just wasn’t for me. It’s hard to find a red lipstick that looks good on me because I’m so pale. When I tried this on oh my god! I loved it instantly. It’s a true matte red with blue based undertones. So gorgeous!!

This is the perfect red. Also perfect if you want a 50’s vintage look. If you’re like me, you’ll wear it almost everyday.

(taken w/o flash)

For me this doesn’t dry out my lips. Its best if you use a lip liner and balm underneath. The color lasts for hours and for a quality of lipstick this good, $14.50 is a steal.

Don’t be afraid to try this. You’ll love it!

Review of Urban Decay Naked & Naked 2 palettes.

Hi everyone!  I’ve been neglecting my blog because I’ve been really busy and I have great news!  My sister had a baby on April 4, 2012!

Ida Antoinette. 7lbs 7oz.  She’s a sweet little Angel, and I love her to pieces.  Look at how beautiful she is.  I can’t wait to paint her nails 🙂

More baby pictures soon…but that’s not why you’re here. You’re here because I promised to review Urban Decay’s Naked & Naked 2 palettes.  So without further adieu…

(From Left to Right w/o flash & with: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal)

This is the original Naked palette.  I use this palette everyday.  Really…everyday.  It’s very versatile. There’s only a couple matte colors in this palette.  Most of the colors are shimmer, but I’m a fan of shimmer so it really doesn’t bother me.  You can wear these colors in the daytime or night time.  For $48 it was a steal.  Alone, the shadows cost about $17 each.  You do the math.  This is a warmer palette.  So it looks great on warmer tones, but I’m cool toned and I still love it.

Here are some swatches.

Gorgeous, right?

But wait!  Have you seen the Naked 2 palette??  Well, here it is.

(From Left to Right w/o flash & with: Foxy, Half Baked, Bootycall, Chopper, Tease, Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol, Verve, YDK, Busted, Blackout)

Oooh.  Now that’s pretty!  This palette has a few more matte colors than the original, including a black matte color!  There is a repeat color in here…Half Baked.  One of my favorite Urban Decay colors.  Oh.  I forgot to mention.  There are colors in both of the palettes that are exclusive to the Naked palettes. Meaning, you won’t be able to buy them separately.  That’s why you NEED to buy these. 🙂

Here’s a few swatches

The Naked 2 palette is for cooler tones.  It has a lot of mauves, silvers and purples.  My favorite color from here is called busted.  It’s a mauve/purpley/grey shimmer and it’s just beautiful.  In my opinion these colors are just a tad more bolder than the original Naked, which makes them perfect for a smoky eye look, but I still wear them in the daytime.  Actually, I use them both when doing my makeup in the morning.  I always get compliments on my eye makeup when I use these.  A lot of people say that if you have one palette, you don’t really need the other.  I disagree. While the colors are similar, they are also very different.

Want to know a quick tip on how to check if you’re cool toned or warm toned…?  First, check your veins.  Do they look blue or green?  Also, what colors look best on you?  Purples, Blues, Greens or Reds, Oranges or Yellows?  Well, if your veins are green and you look best in warmer colors then you’re warm toned and the Naked palette is perfect for you.  If your veins are blue and you look best in cooler colors then you’re cool toned, so buy Naked 2 🙂  I say buy them both.  Together, they’ll cost you about $100. Well worth it though, IMO.

I hope this was helpful and I hope you run out this weekend to buy one or both of these!  Ulta has a 20% off coupon running right now.  I’m not sure if these palettes are excluded from the coupons (usually they are).

Here’s a quick look on what you can do with this

Would you like some tutorials using these palettes?  Comment below and let me know.  Thanks for reading 🙂
